madtom with gold fish

Post by knifegill »

Since the ground level in the 32g is maxed out, I'm thinking of moving my madtom into the goldfish tank. Is 68º appropriate and will the cat eat the danios? She is looking barely big enough, which for a catfish is probably more than big enough. She can have them if she wants them anyway...

The gold's tank is a 44g without substrate. It has a glass canister for a hidey, but I will also put in a piece of slate for her/him.
The pH is the same in both. The temperature difference is twelve degrees, so should I do something besides the usual bag-in-water acclimation? Perhaps slightly, gradually raise the goldfish tank temp before the transfer and then lower it again over a few days?
An opportunity to routinely impose a statement... I'll pass. ;)

That should not be a problem in principle, although you would need to remember to keep up water changes (goldfish are prodigious waste producers).

Then I will do it.

The goldfish tank is planted and gets a 40% change weekly. This has been sufficient so far and my nitrates are usually below 20. Since the madtom probably won't get much bigger than four or five inches, his impact in the 44g shouldn't be great, should it?
