We went for a walk tonight to look at the ponds in our subdivision and check out the birds, fish and gators. We were standing by the edge of the pond, marvelling at the sheer number of little fishies, when a movement at the edge of the pond caught my eye. At first, it was so large and rounded, I thought it was a turtle surfacing, but then I saw a pair of short barbels and a very distinctive sucker mouth. This guy was a good 14" long and looked very well fed. From a bit of searching around, it looks like it was a Pterygoplichthys disjunctivus (as listed on the floridafisheries site). I tried to convince my better half that since it's an exotic species, we should catch it and take it home...

Anyhow, exotic or not, it was a pretty nifty thing for me to see and I thought I'd share it with folks who might appreciate.
Have a good evening,
Jen
