Looking for a Pleco Book?

Hi, I need some opinion here.

As I'm new in this wonderful Pleco keeping hobby and keenly wanted to learn more on the subject matters. Obviously, this is one of the main reason why I joined this forum.

Besides, I read the book review section on this PlanetCatfish Forums and reckon that this particular book: Catfish in the Aquarium, Author & (Publisher) Dr Carl Ferraris, Jr. (Tetra Press) received some positive remarks.

The question, is this a good beginner book or other books even better somewhere?

The Ferraris book is good for catfishes in general, but doesn't cover plecos as much as you would like.

You'd be better off with Aqualog or waiting for the English translation of the Welsatlas.

Which Aqualog's book in particular? Also, the Welsatlas's English version is not out yet and is it something everyone is waiting for a Pleco book?

If you just need pics and little in the way of hubandry info, the latest edition of "all L-numbers" will do.

For something with a little more husbandry info, you can try the DATZ book.

Pleco books tend to be more pictures than info., if you're looking for a pictorial atlas, the aqualog l-numbers book is about the best (if still inaccurate in a few places), the overall best general info. I would say is in the DATZ special although for the price, there's quite a lot of general pleco husbandry info. in the Sands South American catfishes book; you should be able to pick up a copy cheaply on eBay.

Don't hold out for the English translation of the Wels Atlas on primarily l-numbered plecos, the German edition isn't even out yet!

I hope to update our l-number pages over the coming months as they are inaccurate or at least out-of-date in places too.

I think the catfish information on this site is more comprehensive and accurate than any book.

although it is nice to have a physical copy with nice pictures that you can thumb through. no matter how well a website is laid out, you can't beat flicking through a book.

which begs the question, jools, when's the Planet Catfish book coming out?!

I just want a book focus squarely on Pleco keeping and some good L-number to start with. Actually this forum already given so much more, and I'm start wondering why I still need another book!

The Aqualog books are really good.

I also recently purchased the "Datz L-Numbers Special" from TropicalFishFinder and it is very good despite being in German and English. Has lots of info though.

The good old Burgess Atlas of Freshwater and Marine Catfishes (TFH 1989) still has far more written information on catfishes (including the loricariidae) than all others. I know of no other book that addresses every known (as of 1989) genus of loricariidae.

Hi, this is Star-flog again.
After extensive search of internet, this book Loricariidae, All L-Numbers (second edition) is very expensive, US$115.00

Also, I also 'discovered' another book;

All L-Numbers: Habitat, Care & Diet, 128 pages, full coloured, Price: Euro 24.90

This price seems reasonable, anyone has read this book and how does it compared with the first book. Any comments would be appreciated.
