What are the most commonly asked about catfish?
To improve this forum's sticky ( http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... 5440#35440 ), I'm looking for suggestions on what fish are commonly asked about in this forum. I will then add them to the sticky and hopefully avoid a few similar posts.
I would suggest that Horabagrus brachysoma, Mystus Leucophasis and the common pleco would be some? ANy more suggestions?

Silver sharks (Arius seemanni, Hexanematichthys?)
King Tiger Pleco (Panaque sp LDA01)
Synodontis njassae! WITH a picture of a true one.
because way too many people lug around with hybrids (or even genuine Tanganyikan Syno's); foisted off on them by unsuspecting, unknowing or unscrupulous LFS-shopkeepers.....
Pangasius hypopthalmus "P sutchi"
Ancistrus sp "domesticus"; Common Brown Bristlenose.
there must be at least 2-3 dozen posts about this fish, especially young individuals with their characteristic light tailmarkings tend to be bought as some "rare L-number".
Pimelodus pictus.
I've seen too many people buying Arius or worse, because they expect to get this 5" well-suitable Amazonian, instead of a potential marine 2-footer or worse.
Phractocephalus hemioliopterus!
Bullheads, brown or black (Ameiurus spp).
often channelcats are bought when people seek these.

Just to clarify, I meant species that we are commonly asked to ID in this forum, as opposed to species we are commonly asked about across the whole forum - that's a whole different thing!

That's because most people who own this species think they have C. julii. Here are just some of the threads on the subject:Jools wrote:I might have missed it, but I can't ever remember seeing a what is my catfish on this species? This is an interesting point. The darker fish is the one we'd call P. pardalis. The lighter one has sometimes been labelled as a snow king, but I've "lumped" in with P. pardalis (compare with the real snow king (I think!) - note spotted as opposed to reticulated head).
What I am strongly unsure of is the statement about P. scrophus, (a) becuase I've never seen farm raised P. scrophus and (b) I see no P. scrophus charactersitics in the "hybrid".
So, if we accept the darker fish is P. pardalis, the lighter fish we don't know what it is and must be "P. sp"?

OK, I have changed the sticky in this forum to reflect these. All mods can edit or add to that sticky if we see a particular need to add a species.
