Zebra Pl*cos - Serious interest?

Post by smithrc »

It looks like we've (me and a fish store friend) have finally managed to find some Zebra Plecs to import.

They are the L173 Pattern varients but still the same fish.
When breeding them they are said to produce a mix of normal and 'wiggly' marked fry ( a mix of L046/L098/L173).

They are listed as 'small' so will be young and have a long live ahead of them

If your interested please post a reply -
Before anyone says "depends on the price" the final price would depent on the survial rate from shipping but top price would the £100 - so if you answer with that price in mind.

One other note is that I'd prefer to sell in pairs or small groups - but obviously understand the cost involved.

P.S. anyone want to by a kidney... I need to raise the capital in one go!

Just make sure you don't pay for the fish before you've seen them. Someone else had high hopes until they discovered the supposed L173 was actually some completely different specie, I think L236 or some such.

Crooks are about... And paying sort of a hundred pounds for a fish that is worth 20 isn't a particularly good idea... ;-)

I've purchased two completely separate groups of L173 now, knowing both of the times that I was buying fish that were NOT zebras, but are nice Hypancistrus. Hypancistrus zebra is restricted from being exported. You will NOT be getting any from Brazil. I'd be willing to bet money on it. These fish appear to be of the group they're calling Hypancistrus sp. "belo monte" for lack of a better desription. You can look through pics of both batches I purchased http://www.plecos.net/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=50 and http://www.plecos.net/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=56 (you'll have to change the * in plecos to an e though for the URL's to work).

Some bad (but not unexpected) news

Looks like they are L236's - mind you there are soo small they could be almost anything.

Thanks folks... looks like I'll have to keep saving up the pennies :)

Unfortunatly they were on the list as Similar to Zebra (L173) and the price was a darn site highter than any thing else on the list.

Where abouts are you based?
