Back from Tahiti

Well, Moorea to be more precise.

And I'm ashamed to say that while it is truly an amazing place: the fish, the SCUBA, the sharks you can glide around with, the single two-lane paved road that covers the entire island, the lone ferry and lone airplane, the half dozen grocery stores and bananas and pineapples and coconuts as far as the eye can see....I'm glad to be home in a place where I have air conditioning, and ice cream doesn't cost nearly 20 bucks US a gallon, and the mosquitos are not tattooing my legs on a daily basis!

....man. I cannot believe that I just left an island most people call paradise, and am glad to be away from it!
But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I will be unique in all the world..... You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.

I remember a tour operator in South America telling me that German tourists just do not feel they got their money's worth if they do not get at least one mosquito (zancudo) bite.

Come to Scotland, we've got more biting insects at the moment than a nation of just under 5 million really wants. I met a large percentage of them yesterday at http://www.thewickermanfestival.co.uk/

Very nice festival, Jools!

and did they fire up the ol' Wickerman, or didn't they got enough convicts to fill one up?

Oh yeah, they build a huge wickerman every year and end the festival at around midnight with some good old bonfire action.

That's sooooo cool!

now that I'm finally mobile (I just got my first car) going to the UK is definitely an option; think I'll be around somewhere in October, checking out the local LFS.

crashing a UK-based festival is on my "to do list", but for this summer, I'm booked full with some fairly expensive festivals over here.

Hi SG

you could make your visit around the third Sunday in the month and attend the CSG meeting :D
and there are a couple of LFS in the area that may interest you :)
