Need your urgent help - Red Tail Cat Fish

Dear All,

I have just bought my first catfish - it is a red tail catfish approximately 25cm long. I have him in a 8x2x2 tank. The problem i have is that when i brought him home i didnt realise my water temperature was only 20 degrees celcius when i put him in. I did climatise him in the bag he came in by adding my tank water to it - i did this for about 15 minutes. Once i realised this i added another heater and slowly increased the temperature to 25 degrees over a period of a couple of hours.

Will this have effected the fish????

Please guys i need your help urgently......

Hello there.

I'm sure your fish will be fine going in at that temp.

Also, i think you'll need a bigger tank in a few years, RTC's get pretty big!

This post is probably best moved to the south american catfish forum though.

These fish will not tolerate any tank mates. Funnily enough this fish came up yesterday in a CSG meeting topic, One member related, how a friend of his had one of these and apart from killing every tank mate he gave it, it would on occasion attack him when he tried to do maintenance on the tank.
Apart from that they are a fish of great character.

and one for the larger aquarium.

im glad youve got an ARTC, because i wouldnt want anyone to have an RTC!! but then again, if they can house it properly, and i mean, properly, i have no reason not to let them keep it.
i cant understand why people like the bigger catfish though, why not stick with the little guys.
