I was thinking about my current arrangement of my Platydoras Costatus (sp?) trio. And ideas on which tank would be preferable..

They are currently housed in a 75, with CA cichlids. A Convict pair, a Uropthalmus, and some tinfoils that are getting too big. Its a heavily stocked tank, and there is some physical risk here, but they seem resonably well off. They also pillage my convict nest at night, a good thing. I'm working on destocking the tinfoils, currently. (it was my first big tank, so I over estimated the capacity, and under-estimated the tinfoils, at 4 inches, they are too big...)

My 55 contains only 11 Bronze Cories, a swordtail and 4 rubbernose plecos. Its a "river tank" but the cories have no trouble in the current. But, the Raphaels are from warmer waters than the intended low 70s of this tank (73-75F would be pretty good I think, once my room cools down from the summer heat).

Or, what I intended to be a SE asia biotope :o. Being a 20 long I would probably be way too heavily stocked with them and the gourami slated to move in. (plus that needs loaches, not catfish!)

So... 75 or 55?

Best to keep them in the 75.and be careful of tank mates apart from raiding the convict nest , they will eat smaller tank mates.

Have you read the 1999 cotm article on them?

Or looked at the cat-e-log entry on these fish?

‘Is it common?’

Yes, I've read that several times. I believe they are the smallest fish in the tank, or atleast, cant get their mouths around my larger convicts!

They do need to learn to hide better though, the Uropthalmus did catch one, until they made that noise and spiked the poor cichlid ;) I'll add some big driftwood pieces to make it more catfish friendly.
