Eupterus, mysterious death

Post by jasha »

Hi, I have 5 Eupterus in my 280l tank along with a variety of other fish (5yr old tank - Eupterus 6yrs old now)

One of the smaller ones has recently died - 4.5 inches (the biggest one 'Killer' is over 8 inches long). Anyway, the fish sunddenly developed an extremely enlarged belly and would float at odd angles before eventually passing. The only other one I've ever lost was the exact opposite - shrunken belly..

Any ideas on cause? bacterialogical, tumour etc?

Water is and has always been fine and all my other fish are healthy..

Thanks in advance

Probably a bacterial infection that led to dropsy (the swollen belly).

cheers, yeah as I expected really. Hopefully all the others will be okay. The big one is pretty friendly now and quite a character. I'll see if he'll let me take his photo later on...
