Hypancistrus inspector L201 Natural Habitat

Post by Zebrapl3co »

Hi, Does anybody have any info on the natural habitat of the Hypancistrus inspector L201?
There's very little information here:
http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/lo ... /677_f.php

I'd like to know what PH, KH and temp I need to keep my tank at.

I am planning to keep them in the same tank as my Zebra pleco. Please let me know if there is a problem.

Thank you in advance.

This link should help

The basic differences are that the upper Orinoco is blackwater (it receives its headwaters from the same source as the upper Rio Negro) while the Xingu is clearwater. Both rivers have very soft water and are fairly warm. Xingu has a bit more current than the upper Orinoco.

What is the type of habitat and substrate for Scobinancistrus species? Rock/boulder, Rock/gravel, Rock/sand? And are they found in Orinoco or anywhere out of Xingu/Tocantins drainages?
Scobinancistrus auratus is my favorite pleco ^_^

I have three adult male H. Inspector in a 4'x 2' tank, along with a P. Maccus, which is roughly the size of the Zebras. At feeding time the inspectors are definitly quite bullish and do not hesitate to plough each other out of the way. I would not say they pick on the P. Maccus, but they will give short chase if it gets within a few inches of their food. However corydoras are totally ignored, even when they share a food pellet.

So as far as the Zebras are concerned, they will likely end up at the bottom of the pecking order, unless the inspectors are quite small. I've only ever kept a Zebra once (and sadly for a short time) so I can't say how they would react to larger Hypancistrus, but I'd wager the inspectors will try to push them around.

If breeding is your goal then I would definitely keep them seperate as I doubt many smaller loricariidaes could fend off a hungry inspector from their nest.

btw my H. inspectors were kept for a while in a tank with very soft water and a low pH of 5.5 (stable), with no apparant distress. They are now in a tank with a pH of 6.5 so in my experience they are fairly tough.

Thanks. Do Scobin generally forage on rock or sand? Or do they stay mostly hidden in rocks or coming out?
