Hiya,

those photos are of my friend's fish I don't know why but he didn't dare to wrote this personally :) (although he reads PC regularly).
What do you think about this fish I'd be great to know yours opinions :).

I can add that he got 8 of this synos and this one is the biggest (around 8cm), the breavest and the most active :).
Other fhish is a group of young c. horei (6 fish) - they are spawning now!
Tank size: 120x52x52(cm).

Yes, it does look like what people call "S. dhonti", and yes, it does look like it may be suffering from bloat.

Hiya,

thanks Dinyar for a reply. Do you have any ideas what could cause this "bloat"? Regarding to <a href="http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... t">this</a> topic it would be perfect to use maracyn 2 but sadly we haven't got this medicine in Poland :(.
Could anyone please write which ingredients maracyn 2 is made from (and if it's possible how much % of single ingredient is in medicine?)
Could bloat appear without any reason? I'm asking because in this tank fish never was sick before and fish are not feed with live food and frozen food is blanched before feeding.
Is it possible to cure this (it looks like early stage in comparison to your s. alberti) just with rising temperature and doing big water changes?
And last question how fast your syno get bloated so much Dinyar? This fish swims like this for about 1.5 week and nothing change. However fish were not feed for 3 days and also belly did not get smaller.

My apologizes, I didn't read all topics about bloat before posting.
So as pleco_breeder wrote <a href="http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... t">here</a> one of a bacteria genus(or something) caused bloat in loricariidae is hexamitia - the same bacteria which mainy cause bloat in tropheus sp.
Although syndroms and course are a bit different in loricariidae than in tropheus and different from synos, could the same bacterias cause it in synodontis? If yes maybe the same medicine which help tropheus could help syno?

My *guess* is that it's suffering from bloat, but frankly, I don't know that for a fact. You should do some more homework to rule out other possibilities before accepting bloat as a correct diagnosis.

Bloat can develop quite quickly, although fish can often live with it for many months before succumbing to it. Bloat is a symptom, like "headache", that can have different causes. However, one common cause of bloat is gram-negative bacterial infection. I'm sure there must be many different kinds of antibiotics for gram-negative bacteria in Poland. Ask a local veterinarian maybe. Treat the affected fish in separate tank of course, and use antibiotics sparingly.
