Synodontis filamentosus

Post by Chrysichthys »

I have two synos I.D.'d as filamentosus by the LFS on the basis of the photo on page 64 of David Sands's guide to African and Asian catfish.

I think Silurus said in a previous thread that that fish is misidentified, but I can't remember what he said it actually is.

Thanks Silurus, I must have remembered wrong.

Has anybody out there kept S. filamentosus? My two seem more peaceful than Sands's book would suggest. Much more interested in food than in fighting.

In my experience S. filamentosus is a retiring type. They are not aggressive at all. As a matter of fact if you want to maintain the beautiful dorsal extension that develops on mature specimens keep them only with other less agressive Synos. I have also found that they are more particular about water quality than many other Synos.
