Post by mokmu »

Shane,

Here's a solution to the pl*co problem in Manila that I mentioned to you about a year or two ago:

Mike,
Is there some reason they are not eaten in Asia as they are over here?

People in the Phils. view this fish as very dirty. No one wants to eat it. There are some who have taken to eating it but it is a very small minority composed of starving fishermen and their families.

Maybe it will catch on. I guess we could write an article for the PI explaining they are widely eaten in South America and provide some recipes. In Trinidad they make a nice pleco curry soup.

Shane,

I guess that recipe can be used with just about any cheap fish, right? I'm always up for some nice, different recipies, and I'm sure that Cod or other "white" fish will work just as well as Pleco, in case I don't fancy getting the returned Commons from my LFS for the dinner-table [probably not much more expensive than cod, but a bit...]
