Do you think these weird cruastations once grown to a decent size could servive in an aquarium? they must me kept in distilled water and at a temperature of 20-29c my aquarium is filled with RO water and is at 28c just basic tetras, 4 various plecs and a geophagus jupari... http://www.triops.com/

Ah, the old Triops.

I studied these as part of my first degree.
We had about 6 or so in a 3ft tank, they were always active and interesting to watch.

However, due to their exploitation of temporary water bodies, they do not survive for very long, about 4-6 weeks was normal I think. We had quite a few batches during the summer though so had a continuing supply for a display tank.

I think they'd be fine with the tetras, and probably plecs as they are quite strong swimmers when mature. Not sure about a concentrated attack from cichlids though...

Satanoperca jurupari (and it's close relatives) are not terribly aggressive for Cichlidae, so if they are big enough to not fit in the mouth of the jurupari, then they'd be find from that perspective.

From a chemical/biological perspective, RO water and distilled water is the same, so they'd be fine in that respect too.

i think adding these would be great, what a strange and yet interesting idea!!!!!!
i once brought one those sets, but the only thing that hatched from the eggs were daphnia and brine shrimp
well, the angelfish had a whale of a time chasing the brine shrimp around, i was so frustrated with the brine shrimp whizzing around in their container, i "experimented"

I discovered they wont survive, shortly after hatching they prefer water over ph7 in fact they can live in water as high in alkilinity as ph10! but not below ph7 found a really good website on them http://mytriops.com/articles/triops_care.stm I have ordered 5 packets of eggs for Â£5 it would be amazing to have them in with my fish but oh well there still cool!
