Cory sting

Post by mummymonkey »

I got a group of C. rabauti today and as I was transfering them I got pricked. Not unusual but this time it actually stung (like a weak bee sting) for about half an hour after.
Anybody else heard of this?

Did you read the "FAQ"? If not, here's the relevant entry http://www.planetcatfish.com/faq/index. ... opular=yes
- it's not specifically about Cory's, but applies to Cory's as well as almost any other catfish. They have sharp fins...

What occurred is very common. I have even gotten stung from a dead Cory. Lee Finley recently wrote a column in TFH regarding catfish stings. You can't be too careful handling catfish especially when entangled in a net.

I got it once while collecting C. habrosus. Now that is one small cory, but the sting was close in discomfort to a bee sting and also smarted for about 30 minutes.
