Triops again!!!
About 2 weeks ago I ordered 5 packets of triops eggs for £5 a very good deal I believe. On the day I recieved them I hatched them out in 2 littres of Ro water. After a few days the tank was teeming with fairy shrimp, daphnia and about 4 triops. I decided that whilst they were still small I would sieve the water through a net to remove the detritus which was making a huge mess and move them into a larger plastic tank with sand on the bottom. After sieving I accidentally washed the triops down the sink (they didnt go through the net!) or so I thought. I was left with a tank full of fairy shrimp, so I decided to hatch another batch and leave the fairy shrimp as food for the next batch. About a week later I looked into the fairy shrimp tank that had contaimed about 15 large shrimps and found that they had all gone and in there place was a massive triop, I instantly naked him Conan the barbarian for his over night massacare of fairy shrimps! I didnt even know He (it) was in there! since then it had reached about 1.5ins and eats a lot. The other tank Now contains 2 triops that are fast catching up with Conan! I will get some pictures up soon I would really recomend these to anyone there so cool! Just thought I would share this little bit of information with you.

Ive done extensive research on them. currently have them in individual 2g tanks with air pumps sitting in a spare 15g tank for lighting and controling the enviroment. I do daily 25% water changes replacing with mature hard alcaline water by sphoning the water at a certain leven with air line tubing (not the sand substrate, to avoid disturbing any possible eggs) and replace the water through a drip over about an hour. Water is Aqua plus treated tap water with bicarbonate of soda. The substrate is spot cleaned with a pippette daily and they are feed cichilid pellets twice daily. The temperatre is set at 26c in day and 22c at night to stimulaye desert temperature fluctuations. Ive got a shallow 24x12x6 growout tank with dividers and a small filter for when they need a bit more space though they seem fine at the moment.
