Taking fish home

Post by Caol_ila »

Hi!

We are planning to go to Costa Rica or Isla Margerita in March/April and I was wondering if it is possible to take fish home from there?
If I remeber right VEN is quite restrictive for exporting wildlife. Is this the same in CR? Any info or advice would be nice.
cheers

Costa Rica and Belize are IMpossible to take ANY organism away from.
Especially these 2 countries have protected a lot of wildlife (more than any other in Central America), and I can say pretty sure that exporting (or smuggling) any live creatures (including plants, seeds, cuts etc!) is completely prohibited!

How it's with Venezuela I don't know; but from what I've heard, it's pretty severe as well.

And those jails in that part of the world aren't the "Holiday Inns" like we have here; but genuine Hell-holes where you can be very glad if you manage to get out alive and non-infected after a few decades of rotting away in the most miserable circumstances you can imagine or worse.

don't screw around with Latin-American cops and law enforcement.....those guys don't take kindly to such things.

I am with Sid with regards to Costa Rica. Other than Brazil, it is the last country I would try to take anything out of. I am really not sure what, if anything, you would find on Margarita Island. PM me for some additional information.

I found this and it shows some creeks? or maybe channels. Im trying to find on fishbase what occurs on IM but its not sortable by sweet/salt so its a huge list...starting with anchovis :)

edit: Ive checked through the list and this is all I found:
Rivulus hartii
Rivulus holmiae
and this a sweet/brack/saltwater pipefish
Syngnathus scovelli
