Magnum 350

Post by funkyj1313 »

I took apart my magnum 350 last night to clean it and make it flow more water as the water output has declined. I put it back together and it still trickles. Did I miss a cleaning a certain part? I took all the filter media out and rinsed it.

Have you tried cleaning the impeller and impeller shaft? If you don't have the original manual that came with the filter, Marineland might have them on-line. Please let us know how you do.

I'm going to get new filter media tonight and really pay attention to detail when I clean it this time. Thanks!

Did you leave the carbon container untouched?

I use lavarock inside mine, but junk will collect between the particulate media and reduce flow considerably if you don't shake/rinse it out somehow.

Remove the Fish Guard on the pump inlet, and check it for blockage. That is always the bottleneck that most affects my pumps performance.

It was the polishing filter media. I replaced it with a new one last night and cleaned every tube/hose with a bottle brush and cleaned any moving parts, I checked the inlet when it was on and it nearly sucked my finger in. The new polishing filter came with a care sheet. It says that it can be re-used, huh? To clean it use 1/2 cup of chlorine bleach and the rest water to cover the element. Let it sit overnight. Rinse it off well and let it completely dry. I don't like the fact that I have to use chlorine bleach in something that has my aquarium water running through it continuosly.

When you clean the micron cartridge with bleach, allow it to soak overnight, then rinse well and allow to air dry. I think set it back in the jar with water with 10 gallon dose of dechlorinator and allow to dry again. I've never had any problem at all with this method and I've used them for years. Hope that helps!
