Identification of unknown algae eater

Post by jazzyknots »

:? I am new to the group, so please forgive me that I can't seem to find how to post a picture in the Albums to show my catfish... Instructions welcomed! I have a catfish I've raised for last 2 or more years. I bought it at a lfs labeled as 'golden chinese algae eater'. It is about 5 inches long, adult now, very orange/gold color with darker orange/gold along top of body and black eye color. Loves to hide in caves, scavenges anything on the bottom. Any thoughts on what this catfish is?

Hi & welcome to PC. I googled on the description you gave, and what I initially thought seems to be true: that fish is not a catfish, but a Cyprinid. Check/search for Gyrinocheilus aymonieri and let us know if that is your fish.

I'm getting ready to give/sell/? it away, as I have recently aquired a breeding trio of Albino Bristlenose, and I need grow-out space for the babies.

Thanks again!
