Water Quality for Synodontis (Salinity)

Post by Adam »

Hi all,

I have a friend who lives on a station that uses an artesian bore to provide water for his sheep. They are contimplating putting a pond in and were thinking of keeping either S. eupterus or S. decorus but have a few concerns about their water. The water quality is as follows:

Salinity 5, 100ppm
Hardness (as CaCO3) 1200
pH 7
Temperature 25-28oC

Now I've heard advice of putting 760g/380l or 2g/l in tanks which is 2, 000ppm. How do you think the two species would go in this water?

The salinity at 5100 ppm sounds a little too high to me for both Synodontis species.

A salinity at 2000 ppm should be enough
