i have a clown knife... and i was wondering if you guys knew of any bottom feeder type fish that wouldnt get eaten... i am soon upgrading to a 125 gallon tank, so size isnt much of a problem. i am no newbie or anything... i know the cycle process, and watr changes and stuff... so it would be well taken care of. its just that he eats a LOT. and they get huge... so i dont want to keep buying things that get eaten.

I have seen a pic of one of these at 22" so i would say any pleco at around 15" or above or maybe a Red Tail, or Pangusius sutchi but you will need a masive tank for them, i would sell the "Knife" and get somthing like a school of elephant nose's

Much nicer!

selling my clown knife is not an option, and it will be going into a 125 gallon tank. its not necessary to have a bottom feeder, but i thought it might be cool, because i doubt anything else will work.

edit: i forgot to mention, they reach lengths of 2-3 feet.

I've seen clown knives at 2.5' that could barely figure out how to turn around in a 180 gallon tank. It looked cruel and inhumane, to be honest. Hopefully you'll be able to afford to buy an even larger home for him when the time comes. With that said, they have very effective teeth. Unless you're wanting to devote one end of the tank to a root wood tangle or something for your pleco or other bottom feeder to hide in, I doubt you're going to have much luck keeping anything like that in his tank. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

i guess i could deal with him being alone... he is my favorite fish anyways. less of a bio load that way. he is only about 6-7 inches right now. i hope to build a pond. if i go that route it will have a heater/chiller and be huge.
