Question for Whitepine: how did corys do on Flourite?

Post by Deb »

This is for Whitepine, but anyone who has experience with Corydoras and broken clay substrates (eg., SEACHEM Flourite) is very welcome to answer.

Whitepine, do you remember this thread:
http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... doras+sand

It's been more than a year and I am eager to hear how those little corys are doing on the Flourite. There is no doubt that Flourite is great for plants, and I use it, but not in tanks with corys because I think it must be too rough for them. If you say it's working out, I'd be willing to try it.

I have gotten advice to mix Flourite 50/50 with sand, and then put a further 1/2" of sand on top of that.
Does that sound like it will work?

The cories were fine... I keep them in that tank for almost a year with no problems and they had great barbles. If you mix flourite with sand, find a course grain sand that is very similar to the florite in size. If the sand is smaller it will work its way to the bottom of the tank. I actually think you would be better putting the florite in the back of the tank and the sand in the front instead of mixing it.
