Where is this going to take place? If it's close to the Dutch border you may bring some Bocons along with you :).

Haha... I wont have any fish to bring with me. We are just doing the hobby import program until we set our tanks back up at my partners house.

They will set up in Nurnburg I beleive (sp?). Great thing about working for the airlines is I fly there for $51. How awesome is that?

Neurenberg.... that's about 700 km. Well known for its fairs. Games, toys, books, you name it.
51 dollars? Awful cheap. But how much are they charging to fly you back home?

The year befor last I went to Aquaria China. It was my first show. I've never see such awesome fish dither away until they died. Also I LOVE my small cat's & pleco's but I never restrict myself to just those fish. I love a lot different fish. I went to their mall in GZ. There were four kinds of fish. Koi, Discus, Flowerhorne, and Arowes. 10k sq ft and four kinds of fish. :( hope this year fairs better for the hobby.

If you plan on flying to Nuremberg (or Nurnberg, or whatever name you give it), you're _probably_ better off flying to either Munich or Frankfurt and driving the remaining distance. From Munich, it's real easy, [easier than Seattle Tacoma to Spokane, I'd say] - just a bit over three hours driving. However, parking in Nurnberg is a pain - but the showground should be fine, as well as the Hotel if you ask around to see if they have parking before you choose hotel.

Yes, the Nurnberg trade-show area is pretty big.

Obviously, just my thoughts...

Yes, the ICE (=InterCityExpress) is another good option. I can't remember how much I paid for the ticket from Munich several years ago. I think it was about 200 DM which would make it abour $50 or so, and I think Frankfurt is a bit closer, so should cost a bit less.

If you have some flexibility of when you want to travel, you should just be able to buy the ticket when you get to Frankfurt - you may not get a seat on the very next train, but should get a seat on one within the next hour or two, I would say. So unless you have a meeting with someone wihtin the first few hours in Nurnberg, just fly over and get the train ticket as you get there...

I did a quick search on http://www.db.de (which is in German only), and I think the cost would be about 41 EURO, which isn't that far from $50. That includes bus from Frankfurt Airport and another change at Nurnberg main station to use a Street Tram to get you somewhere (I just picked a random location on the list, but picking another place at random didn't change the amount of money, just time it takes to get there).

No, but I've been to the trade shows for computers in Nurnberg a couple of times, and I've been working with the guys at SuSE (now Novell) that are based there, so I've been there long enough to know roughly what it looks like and such...

There's plenty of nice little restaurants and "bierstube" in the old town - Nurnberg was one of the few places in Germany that didn't get hit too badly by the English and US bombs during the war... I like the restaurant that is IN the Town Wall somewhere [sorry for the poor describtion].

Also beware that you MAY not be able to find someone in the trainstation that speaks good English, but with some effort you should be able to get what you want - more or less... ;-)

Come on Waldo!

You ain't going in Germany to eat Macdonald's!!! plz!!!

There are some fine cooking in there...sure it won't be as great as French cooking is, but still it would be sad to go there and not try the local food and some fine german beer to swallow everything..., beside that you won't catch "Tourista" in such place!!

Cheers

Foreign menus are different. China had great McDonalds food. And I didn't want to eat dog. I don't drink lager as you so call it. It tastes like crud. Don't drink too much alchohol in general.

Drugs are bad too if you din't know. There was a flyer put out some 20 years ago I beleive. I'll forward it to you. :P

So what good? Bratworsts, hagen daaz, and swedish fish. sounds like a complete european meal to me.

You'll be sitting on top of good food. The brilliant, yet completely forgotten German composer Johann Gambolputty de Von Ausfern etc etc etc aus Ulm, carries in his very long family name (which caused the fact that he didn't make it as a composer): bitteeinnürnburgerbratwurst. What more do you need?
Other suggestions: Currywurst (spicey), Kartoffelsalat (potato salad); Schnitzel (meat) and Sauerkraut.
If someone suggests Schweinhund (pig dog), there's something wrong. This is no meal, but a curse....

If you like to try something different, try Kartoffel in Furth (which is the next village north of Nurnberg, and not very far from the showgrounds at all - take the S-bahn [local train]).

It's a vegetarian restaurant that does ALL it's cooking with potatos - including potato-based pizza (with cheese, tomato and vegetables on top).

Re hotels: I guess you want a budget hotel, right? If you want, I'll see if one of my friends in the area can recommend something...

Recommendations by a "local" for "Cheap and cheerful" (aka Budget) hotels in/near Nurnberg:

http://www.smilehotel.de/
http://www.hotel-primavera.de/

The latter is in "Furth", which is just a short distance from Nurnberg itself.

I think I've stayed at the Smile hotel some years back. If it is the one I'm thinking of, it's pretty much like your mid-range US Motel - good but nothing luxurious. . Of course, I could be confused with something with a similar address...

I have also stayed in Furth, but not in that particular Hotel.

Not bad. If you don't know already I don't drink but somehow I survived on Beer, Brats, and Bread for a whole week. There really wasn't anything to do outside of the pet show though. Went to a discotek with my partner and a few other exporters. I swear their was 3 girls and 7 guy's. The odds of getting to dance were a little less then good.

I was most impressed with the public transportation. WOW. Ubahns, Tram, the DieBahn they were all very awesome. not to mention BMW, and Audi Taxi's I mean comon. I've only seen a handfull of ferrari in my life and you guy's have one on every block.

They requested we didn't take pictures so we didn't. I was much more impressed with the upkeep of tanks then I was with Aquaria China 2004. Business terms went well. We are going to be talking with Segrest, and Dolphin. One of our competitors were scolded by OFI for 6 complaints. We also set up terms with a lot of different groups. I was most happy about setting up contacts with Atlas, and Aqualog. Our instalations are offered to any scientific study.
