Rubberlip Pleco?
Rubberlip Pleco?
Hello, I am new to the boards.
I currently have a 20 gallon with 1 fantail goldfish and a coupla plants (I wouldnt really call it a "planted tank" as im not doing anything to particuilarly keep the plants alive) I want to upgrade to a 55 gallon. So I can an add 1 more goldfish, a pleco, and maybe some snails.
I have done some research on the best kinds of plecos that are compatible with goldfish and have narrowed my choices down to bristlenose pleco, and rubbernose/rubberlip/bulldog pleco.
I think I prefer the looks of the Rubberlip.

Is there anything I should know about this particuilar breed? I do want him partly for the algae cleaning properties, but mostly I just think he looks cool. What kind of food do they prefer? I know they cant just live on the in-tank algae. What other care should I be prepared to provide?
Thanx
Rayston

This fish is not for planted tanks, and it's not for going with goldfish either, becuase both plants and goldfish would not like the current in the water that makes the Chaetostoma happy... Temperature-wise, I'd make sure you have the air-conditioning going well, because they prefer the low 70's F.
They are very nice fish, but they need the right care, or you'd quickly be writing here to ask for advice on how to "save it".
