How to catch Petricola

Post by nicholsd »

I need some help trying to catch some Petricola. I have a 107 pound piece of holey rock in my tank and they just love to get in there and hide form me. Whats the best way to catch them. Thanks

You can make a trap with a coke bottle. Do a search on the web for DIY fish trap.

I made one to catch my petricolas. The only problem I had was it took forever. They're smart little buggers I'd catch one and the rest would'nt go near it for a while.

IME most people end up taking the rocks out of a portion of their tank (after using a tank divider to section it off).

Something I have done that might work in your case is (a) wait until the Petricola are outside of their caves, and (b) drape the rock with netting so that they cannot enter, then catch them with 2 nets.

Hey thanks to everybody for the help. I tried the soda bottle and it worked. This is how it went. I have a all male Peacock tank with Brushynose and Petricola in it. Durning the day the Peacocks were all over the trap and the catfish were still hiding. So I thought this is not going to work. Then when it got dark outside and I turned off the lights where the room was in total darkness in five minutes I caught two. I reset the trap and went to Kroger for thirity minutes. When I got home two more where in the trap. This was so cool.

Thanks again!
