Swollen belly

Post by gedtranter »

I have a pair of cory trilineatus that have been spawning off and on for the last 8 weeks or so. Out of the two it is the male with the swollen belly, he really has quite a concave bend to his stomach,I would expect it from the female but not him. Otherwise there are no other symptoms, he is active and feeds well. Is this normal? (it definately is the male, I have watched them spawning and depositing eggs together).

pH7
Ammonia, Nitrite 0
Nitrate 10-15
35% water change per week
20 gal planted tank, 5 emperor tetras, 5 rummy nose, 2 rams

I think that's just a healthy fish.

Looking down on the fish from above you would compare it's shape to an upper case letter 'D'. That's how distended one side of him is. The 'straight side'of the 'D' is starting to bow inward as the other side has expanded.
Anyways, he is still alive and doing ok in all other areas. Hopefuly he has a while left in him yet.

Oh, OK, I'd taken it to mean a concave belly in from a lateral view. Otherwise this sounds like some sort of internal issue / injury, if the fish continues to feed then great.
