Hi!
I am new to the catfish world and just purchased a really cool little guy from my lfs. He rattled off the name, but now I can't remember it for the life of me.
He is black and white and is sort of an argyle pattern.
Ring any bells?
I know this is a long shot so ..... thanks!
Jenifer

I don`t knoww what argyle means, but could it be Agamyxis pectinifrons - spotted raphael catfish?

i went for those two because they're so ubiquitous, and display such varying colouration. i know the ones in the photo aren't black and white, but many are.
i know they don't have a diamond pattern, but i can't think of any species that do......
jeniferv, does it have long whiskers or a suckermouth?

So if it's a corydoras type fish, it's likely of the genus
Aspidoras
Schleromystax
Callichtys
Hoplosternum
Megalechis
or of course a Corydoras
The pattern rules out Brochis species, as they are not black and white.
Something like perhaps?
It could naturally be something that just LOOKS sort of like a cory, but isn't actually a cory...

So when I purchased the fish, the guy rattled of some long name and said it was part of the catfish family which is why I came here.
I started to get frustrated because I really wanted to know what this lil' guy was so I started to click on every link at the Live Aquaria site. Turns out that he's not even a catfish! LOL He is a sudamonthki (sp?) botia which is part of the LOACH family!
At least now I know.
Thanks again to everyone for all of the guesses!

Hello - botia sidthimunki is also known as the dwarf or chained loach, is endangered in the wild, and has, like most loaches, spines in front of their eyes which can cause nasty owies if they are handled. Very cool looking little guys!
see http://www.loaches.com for more info . . . .
