medication

Post by Tom »

I have a 180 gal. with 3 12" Central American cichlids, 2 Synos and 3 Schilbe. The cichlids are showing Hole-in-the-head-disease. I increased my water changes but that doesn't seem to help. My LFS recommends Metronidazole (500 mg.). The dosage is 1 tablet per 10 gallons. My concern is the catfish. Can they handle it or should I cut the dosage in half?

Metronidazole is well tolerated by catfish and pretty much all other vertebrates, AFAIK. Adverse effects only start to show up at multiples of the recommended dosage. Your cats should be fine.

The lack of water changes is probably how you developed the problem.
