Cordylancistrus torbesensis
Just submitted the Data on this fish. Schultz gives a very good description that, unfortunately, does not remotely match the live fish pictured in the Cat-eLog. Color pattern should be somewhat similar to P. maccus in live specimens.

Looked up C. perijae description and it just says "uniform brown." Not sure if this could be the fish we have pictures of.

OK, I will check for the data sub.
The first three pics are of a fish that came out of Ecuador from a speculative exporter sample, what is the text of the Schultz description precisely?
The fourth is from Jon Armbrusters site and is preserved, so could be the right fish just drained of colour in life?

Jools,
I typed out a fair amount of the description in the data sub. You can see there that it has 4-5 distinct dark "saddles" across the body and bars across the anal, pectoral and lower caudal fins. Upper caudal lobe is pale. Sounds like a P. maccus in overall pattern with a Lasiancistrus type tail (i.e. two diiferent patterns on each caudal lobe). The description is actually very nice. He collected over 170 specimens.
I am sure Jon's photo is just washed out after 60 years in chemicals (actually, I mean the fish is washed out.).
If the other fish is from Ecuador, that is way outside the area of any described spp. The other two described spp. are northern Colombian and northern Venezuelan. That said, I would not be surprised if the genus has a much larger distribution.

Looking at the first three pics, anyone else think it's a big Chaetostoma?

Well, I have re-labelled it as Chaetostoma for now.
