Tightened security may affect your fish tank!

Post by Dinyar »

If you live in the US -- and possibly some European countries -- you may find that your tap water quality may change as a result of heightened domestic security as we (recklessly) go to war. I taste much more chlorine in my NYC tap water over the last 2-3 days. So remember to use your dechlorinator when doing your water changes!

i noticed the same thing. now, my water has a noticable chlorine smell. how do you know that's why they increased it? it makes perfect sense, but i was just wondering if you read it somewhere...

No, I'm "Dinyar" Have always been.

No, I didn't read specifically about this anywhere, though I did read that security had been greatly increased at local reservoirs and the water supply was a major area of concern in NYC. I noticed a distinct chlorine smell (it comes and goes) in my tap water which wasn't there before, and put 2+2 together. Just a hunch. I could be wrong. But better safe than sorry.

Dinyar. If the Chlorine is on the rise then maybe the other toxins that are use to decontaminate the water are higher too.

I found this list of chemicals routinely added to tap water in the UK .

Liquified chlorine
Fluorosilicic acid
Aluminium sulphate
Calcium hydroxide
Sodium silicofluoride

Also found:

Pesticides
Nitrates
Trihalomethanes (THMs)

Salts of:

arsenic
radium
aluminium
copper
lead
mercury
cadmium
barium

I only ever use Chlorine away when treating tap water as I have a small Active carbon trickle filter for the metals and other toxins, however I think Iâ??ll be using Tap safe or some other product like that from now on just in case .

At the moment my tap water ph can shift from 6.6 to 7.6 in just 2 hours and ppm can rise to 200ppm(overall toxins) , so for now I am of to my friends house with a 20 gallon water container.

Any one in the UK had water problems? Or US even?

Bye

PS: Not jumping topic .

The water in the midlands is crap as well . No need for terrorists to poison us the authorities do a good job allready. We advise most of our customers to use still bottled water when doing changes as the tap water is far too high in nitrate and other inpurities or use a purifierof some sorts.
