Whats this then?

Post by Owch »

Im looking for a mate or mates for this little terror, as I think he/she is lonley.

I'd also like to breed these so would like to know if its a he or a she, and how best to breed them.

I think he/she may be an L265, but the last picture of L049 in the Cat-eLog look very similar.

L265
L049

Here's some pics of mine:

I don't think it's an L265, since there are bands on the dorsal and caudal fins (whereas L265 would have none).

Hi!

I don't think it is L265 either, a few more pictures showing the body in a lateral way would be really helpful to determine what possible L-number...

Do you have the name under which you bought it, and eventually the origine of the import he came through...

Your fish belong to the genus Peckoltia
cheers

Hi!

I think is a good fit for yours as long as it was imported from Brasil...but there is quite many L numbers that pocess such pattern....

you did not answer under what name you bought it...

From the photo it looks like it is a female... can't see really well if she has odontodes near the caudal pedoncule, but it looks like she ain't any...

By the way, as the identity will remain doubtfull... I would not try to breed her with another Peckoltia even if he looks similar to her...the possibility to end up with Hybrids in that case is really high...

the best way would be to by a pair of another species and try breed these instead...

cheers

I'm thinking a Butterfly pleco, L168. They are very good at disguising, a picture in the Catelog looks like it, and my LFS has some just like it.

While I couldn't say whether it's L049, L211 or or what other Peckoltia it could be...it's definately a Peckoltia like others mentioned. I'm no expert w/ these, as I only have brevis, L205 & a "fake" Peckoltia (L147) myself. Some years ago I had L265 tho, and I can agree w/ certainty that this isn't your fish anyway!

Also L168 is a Dekeyseria and they have much flatter bodies in comparison.

It was sold as a Tiger Plec, but I was dubious when I got it.

Yeap... the only problem is that many Peckoltia spp are being called tiger something...
Maybe if you could go again where you had it and ask for more of these...

Cheers
