For all those that couldnâ??t make it. You missed an excellent day; As usual our chairman got us underway by showing quite a few types of catfish defence methods via a power point presentation.
As is the norm these days, meetings are mainly centred on group participations although this is not compulsory, and as we have said in the past, â??you are welcome to come along and just enjoy the day in good companyâ?? all types of defence method were discussed from camouflages to venom. Where many experiences was exchanged including the presidents (T j Morris) account of his hospital trip when he had got â??stungâ?? by a fossilis cat. After a refreshment break, Brian Walsh gave a talk on the way some catfish use their fins as a means of defence, What was so enjoyable about Brianâ??s talk was that he brought along various catfish skulls and skeletons, where-bye he explained some of the anatomical means of how some fish â??lockâ?? their dorsal fins into place; and on one skull specimen he had even rigged a small length of fishing line so that when you pulled on it, the dorsal became erect and â??lockedâ?? into place, so this section of the day became a â??hands onâ?? participation as Brian kindly passed round these skeletal remains for everyone to look at.
The only down side of the day as far as I was concerned was. I DIDNâ??T WIN ON THE RAFFLE!!! AGAIN!!!.

The August meeting will be on the subject of â??The specialist feedersâ?
