10 gallon tank

Post by MustardGas »

Hi everyone, Im a noobie when it comes to catfish and had some questions. What species in a pair will fit in a ten gallon tank? I want something for beginners and easy to breed. Just give me any sugestions and I will do some more research on it before I acually buy and start. Also I really wanted a pair of albino BN but had to rule it out cuase they grow out to 5inch. But I heard there are dwarf BN, is that true and how big do they get.

you could try some of the really small Peckoltia or Hypancistrus. You can fit a pair of L260 in there as long as you have some caves, rocks, and driftwood.

As far as I'm aware, there's no "Dwarf" common bristlenose. There may be some that have been inbred or otherwise been mismanaged (stunted from poor feeding/dirty water, for instance). But more likely, the "Dwarf" is in reference to the fact that they are "Dwarf's" compared to full-size plecos such as Hypostomus spp. etc, that grow to 10-15" in size.

There are some Ancistrus species that are a bit smaller than 5", such as . They are a fair bit harder to get than the "Common bristlenose", but you should be able to get some with a bit of effort.

rarely grows to more than 4", so could be another option. Just make sure you have some wood in the tank.

By the way, according to the "size-rule" of 4L x 2L x 2L, where L is the length of the fish, a 10g tank can probably hold a fish that is 5", as I think the tank would be about 20" x 10" x 10" at least...
