nigrita/acanthomias/nigromaculatus

LFS has an un-I.D.'d syno which I think must be one of these three. I would like to know how to tell them apart, since I don't want to pay a fair bit of money, only to get a nigrita.

It looks very similar to a photo of nigromaculatus in the Baensch atlas. Is that one correctly I.D.'d?

LFS has promised to e-mail me some pics. When I get them I'll post them (if I can figure out how).

The nigromaculatus in the Baensch Atlas looks like a young acanthomias.

Thank; I'm hoping it's an acanthomias. It would seem to be more slender than a nigrita, and has a smaller adipose fin--is that right?

The adipose fin in an acanthomias is about the same size as in a nigrita. It only appears slightly smaller because of the more elongate body.

And nigromaculatus has smaller spots? Aside from the Baensch photo, every pic I've seen of it shows a fish with numerous small speckles.

EDIT: And likewise for filamentosa plus a dorsal filament?

Synodontis nigromaculatus is a more finely spotted fish. Synodontis filamentosus barely has any spots.

It seems almost certain that it's an acanthomiasthen. So I'll buy it for sure. Thanks for your help.
