Would this be a Leopard Peckoltia L008?

Post by aquaoahu »

Since the Cat-elog has just one photo of the L008 I'd thought it best to ask around. I've never seen this little guy before in any of our LFS. It looks somewhat similar to a Clown Pleco, L104, except for the spots on the front of the pleco

It's 2.75" long and was probably sent w/ a batch of L104. This is just a guess on my part since the LFS had spread L104s all over their tanks. The worker didn't know what it was and charged me just $1.95 for it.

Yes, L-147. Interestingly, I was charged only a few dollars American for this specimen, too. :?

I read the Cat-eLog description. Will this species be more clearly defined in the near future? It seems as if there's a lot of variation. I'd love nothing more than to find more of these, but the odds seem to be against me. Do L-147's come in as contaminants?

All except for one larger specimen I seen about 4 years ago at petsmart (sold as "tiger pleco"..imaginative I know), they always seem to be contaminants in Panaque maccus shipments. I unfortunately have just 1 younger fish right now, but I've found at least 5-6 others this way. They're usually under 2" of course, so they can be a bit hard to spot & almost always pretty emaciated.

At least you know you'll never spend more than $5-9 on one that way!

Thanks for figuring this little guy out. How large do the L147 get and what's the actual value of these hitchikers?

For me, L147 is closest to . They're more valuable than clown plecos, say 3 times? I've seen them at 5" SL.

I just tried to get a total length (stem to stern). It seems to be closer to 4" already. This one has a voracious appetite for courgette, spinach and orange melon.
