I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the PPI (pores per inch) of the various grades of filter foam were, in particular the foams from the Juwel internal filters and the Fluval external filters.
I may be able to lay my hands on large quantities of the stuff but need to know the different sizes.
Also, does anyone know what the foams are made of, there are two thing that would be acceptable and I can get, but the exact foam would be desirable.
The two types that are fine for water are:
1. Reticulated Polyether foams
2. Reticulated Polyurethane foams
Cheers
Tom

Don't know the exact numbers, but I'm going to give you an estimate:
Juwel Internal:
Fine: pore diameter around 1-2 mm ~1.5mm average => 16 ppi.
Course: pore diameter around 3-4 mm, ~3 mm average => 8 ppi.
Also, a fluval internal filter uses a very similar pore density as the course Juwel one.
My Eheim 2010 filter uses an intermediate PPI of aroun 12 [guessing based on the above estimates]. [But this is probably hard to reproduce, as it's a round tube internally and square outer.]
