Breeding panda or bronze cories

Post by luke »

I have 3 panda cories 2 bronze and 1 bronze longfin in a tank with tetras and barbs. I have been trying to get either species to breed by following the advice i read (weekly 50% water changes with lowered temp). Ive been doing this for a few weeks and they still arent showing any signs of breeding. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?

I think that the bronze longfin is male while the regular bronzes are female. I cant tell the difference with the pandas.

My 4 peppered cories were spawning a few months ago. It was after I did one large water change. Last week my rosy red minnows spawned (they're not catfish though) after I started feeding some special foods (freeze dried bloodworms, baby shrimp, and ocean plankton). You will have to try different things like conditioning them with live foods, changing the temperature, and adding new water. Although some Corydoras will spawn on a diet of dry food, many will not. It also might take a while for the female to get gravid. For example, a fish in the wild wouldn't start spawning as soon as spring came. They would need to find nutritious foods, or find the proper spot to put the eggs. Patience is the key when breeding fish.
