Please can you tell me what this is?

I have 2 of these and yesterday found them with a huge group of kittens, all of which are free swimming and i would say approx 3 to 4 weeks old?

Which one of the two fish in the picture is it that you would like to identify? It would help a little bit also if you could get a picture that is a little bit sharper. Try putting the camera on a tripod or use flash to reduce the time that it requires to take the picture.

The dark brown plec is what i want identifying. This picture was taken from a while back, i no longer have a digital camera.

This is another pic of the same plec but he's a little more blotchy than normal...

By the way, if it's the albino (white) fish that you're asking about, it's probably an Albino bristlenose, .

If you have babies in the tank, then I'm pretty sure this isn't the parents.

I'd suspect the bristlenoses... Do you by any chance have a brown bristlenose together with the albino one?

I no longer have the bristlenoses with the plecs and no, i do not have a brown bristlenose.

The occupants of the tank are those 2 as mentioned, 2 leopard plecs, 1 green spot and 1 flash peckolta.

Very interesting - I don't think there's any reports of these breeding in tanks - but someone's got to be first...

Any chance of some pictures? [Yes, I did see that you didn't have a digital camera, but perhaps you can convince someone else to take some photos for you, or something].

I have a camera phone, i took a pic last night of a kitten on the glass, its not excellent at all but you can make out the kitten (just). The lighting doesn't make things easy either

Camera's in mobile phones aren't exactly great for close-up photos of subjects in dark scenarios...

I can make out the fish, but it would be impossible for me to tell you what kind it is, for example...

This is your fish. It's not a Pterygoplichthys.

If those are the parents, I'd say that's quite an achievement.
