Is this a catfish?

Post by Nopileos »

Hello!

I´m frustrated, two weeks ago I´ve bought that fish and nobody could tell me what it is. I´ve searched nearly every austrian and german Forum and nobody could help me jet.

I even don´t know if it´s a catfish...

Looks like Somileptes gongota, a loach from India. They really need a sand substrate that they can bury themselves in, your fish is likely to be stressed if it is unable to do so (and it may injure itself it if tries on a gravel substrate).

I know, it likes burying himselvein the Sand:

I´ve put sand into my AQ, about half of the ground consists of it and it seems he likes both, gravel and sand...

The correct name of this fish is now Canthophrys gongota.
