Infertil eggs

Post by Eric1 »

Hi Folks,
I have had 2 spawns. I have 3 females and 3 males in a 10 gal tank. The fist spawn no eggs hatched. I lowered the temperature of the tank to 76 The second spawn had about 50 hatch out of 300 eggs.

Both times the eggs were removed with a razor blade and treated with 1 stp of methelyene blue in 10 gal.

Could hard water cause the eggs to be infertile? my water is about 7.8 PH 12 GH and 12 KH.
Thanks
Eric

In my opinion, your water could well be the reason. When i have some breeding corys, the eggs will fungus when I've used tap water for water changes. My tap water is very much like yours.
If I use rainwater, the eggs almost never fungus. I don't have measurements of my rainwater, other than pH being around 7, but the water is much softer than my tap water.
Best regards,
