Sun Catfish

Post by dlhumphrey »

I was just curious if anyone has raised the Sun Catfish (Horabagrus brachysoma). They sound like a nice fish but I canâ??t seem to find their actual size. I have seen anywhere from 6â?

About 18" plus tail, according to .

If you use the Forum Search (in the menubar above), and type in Horabagrus brachysoma, you'll also find that there's quite a few posts about this species. Not sure how much of it is of use to you...

Thanks MatsP

The problem I am running into is finding someone who actually raises them. Even the link you gave me has conflicting information, quoting the maximum size to be from 130mm to 450mm. This is quite a difference.

This quote is from the link you gave me.

â??Young fish are similar to H. nigricollaris particularly if unsettled. In H. nigricollaris the black collar stripe extends from mid-body around to the top of the fishes head, whereas in H. brachysoma it remains a distinct spot. Baensch reports the maximum length as 130mm. Imports have been recorded larger than this size and the maximum size given elsewhere in hobby literature is 450mmâ?
