Pls. Help Me Pick A Suitable Tank Mate For Syn. Ocellifer

Post by pbohart »

Hi -

I have a mixed Malawi Mbuna tank with a single Synodontis Ocellifer in the tank. He is way too shy for my taste and I have some room in the tank, so I would like to add a catfish tankmate.

Any suggestions to avoid conflict??

Thanks!

Pepper Cory or Bronze Cory? Or did you mean that you wanted a regionally correct tank?

NO Cory-cats in a Malawi-tank please.

that amounts to cruelty to animals. apart from the waterparameters -wich are all wrong- there is the issue of Corydoras ripped to pieces while being alive.

seen it all too often; Callichthyds in Malawi-tanks. a big NO.

you want catfish in a Malawi-tank, go for more Synodontis. Tanganyika Syno's or the more sturdy riverines like ocellifer wich you have.

btw do NOT add a single Syno, regardless of species. '2' is a bad number with Synodontis and this is particulary so with territorial riverines like the ocellifer, angelicus, nigrita etc.

they do fine as solo, and as a group (4-5, more), but fair quite badly in two's or three's.
