Aphanotorulus placement

Post by MatsP »

A comment in Cat-eLog says
Previously placed in Aphanotorulus and now included in the larger genus, Hypostomus despite the fact that all these species show clear sexual dimorphism and have a generally flatter appearance than other conspecifics.
However, this comes from , which is not listed as a Hypostomus.

I changed it to a statement of
Some scientists would like to merge this genus with Hypostomus
.

It's a tricky one, we've already sunk Cochliodon and so why would you therefore not sink Aphanotorulus too. The reason is the same for Squaliforma and also for Isorineloricaria if memory serves. I'll vet in the edit soon...

Agreed, if we include other synonymy according to Armbruster, we should probably continue (although he admits on his web-site that Aphanotorolus may be one of the ones that "deserve" it's own genus).
