A few years ago (2002 or so), a friend of mine went on a collecting trip to South America, and he brought back a ton of fish. There were a few of these guys in there. He told me his best guess was a baryancistrus sp.? So, that was what I went with. Anywho, I have a few snaps. I no longer own them, but was always wondering about a positive ID?

Where in south america did he collect the fishes...Peru or Brazil? Why I ask is because I dont think the pictures of L178 in Cat-eLog is the right species, L178 is a species very dark with white small spots and not like the one pictured here.
