Thanks guys. Those ones were relatively easy once I learned how to do it. The [ clog ] tags in the forum now do this too, for example:

Actually the clog tags were really hard as I had to patch the site image handler (AKA catscan) to interpret the a request from the forum and render the picture in a roundabout kind of way. As catscan also emails me whenever there is a broken picture, this has the handy side effect of me now getting an email whenever a bad [ clog ] tag is written (previously it only emailed Silurus if it was actually clicked on.
Dave suggested I added it for the common names and so that's done too.
I've also enhanced it this morning to be clever enough to work out if the species in question DOESN'T have any images and so avoid trying to display an image that, in those cases, doesn't exist.
I'll move this post into the "resolved" forum, but if you keen cats come up with any other related uses of this, just post in it.
