giraffe catfish coloration

Post by asianeric »

i have a couple of giraffe catfish which as juveniles had the giraffe like patterns on their bodies. when they got older they turned almost uniformly dark brown as expected. but now the areas on their heads as well the their pectoral fins are turning light brown. the difference between their dark bodies and light brown heads is really obvious. is this normal or is this a disease. im not really sure when the color changes appeared. thanks!

Is it just the top of the head turning light brown? I wouldn't worry too much in that case, since the skull roof bones are exposed there and they would have little pigmentation.

According to David Sands's guide to African and Asian cats, it's normal for their pattern to fade. (If you are referring to Auchenoglanis occidentalis).
