tank decor for plecos

Post by Henry Di Cristofano »

I have a bristlenose that spends all day attached vertically to the water pump in my tank. The pump is black, and the fish is attached at the very top and just hangs there all day. When the lights go out, it starts cleaning the glass and the plants. Would placing a cave in the tank be more like it's natural habitat - would it prefer to spend the day in a cave rather than suspended from the pump?

They usually spend the day under a floating log or submerged branch. Ancistrus only move into "caves" at spawning time, and then only the males. I use lots of sloping driftwood "sticks."
