Acicidently inherited a syno. eupterus...

Post by Ravenlock »

Hello. I was hear a long time ago with some questions about corys and y'all were very helpful.

So like my title says I have just inherited a syno. eupterus. I spent 2 hours on the net trying to identify him! The guy had no idea what it was.

So he/she came in a badly taken care of 20g that I bought from a friend of a friend. The tank was supposed to be empty, but he was still in there. The guy said I could take him or he was going to give it to a friend who had a 20g full of guppies. Well, I don't know a lot about catfish, but I do know a 6 inch fish doesn't belong in a 20g with 20 guppies.

So I rescued him/her. Of course now I have to live with my choice. So I have placed him in my 30g with my (mated)pair of AGGRESSIVE angels. He seems to be enjoying the clean water and space. The angels are nippy, but he seems to hold his own. He justs swims on by...:) In fact he is out most of the day hanging under my overhang of driftwood.

I realize after doing some research that this is not the best arrangement. So my question is:

Do you think this arrangement could work? I have lots of plants and driftwood in the tank. I have built him 2 caves on either side of the tank at the back. I do a 50% change every 6 days, and keep my nitrates at less then 10ppm. The lighting is very subdued, and I have been feeding him after lights out. My angels are very aggressive so I'm not worried about aggression from him. Thanks for any thoughts!

P.S. I am open to upgrading in the future, but I can't afford to just yet.

Your arrangement sounds fine as long as the fish are constantly damaging or stressing each other.

The syno will eat any angelfish eggs at night though......

Thank you for the reply.
I'm not worried about egg eating. I don't want any babies. My angels used to be in my 55g, but they constantly attacked my tetras and corys until I had to move them. They are wicked aggressive for angels. They think they are cons.

They have been mostly ignoring him over the last few days. I think they are getting used to the new monster in the tank. They didn't really hurt him, just a little tail nipping, which seems to have tapered off. :)

The only other problem may be that the Syno might get a tad big for the tank down the road. How big is it now? I had two, and they grew very fast (from 4 to 10 cm (1.5 to 4 inches) in about 5 months). My LFS has one that is about 25 cm (10 inches)
