Moving to Dublin (Ireland)

Post by grokefish »

Hello I'm hopefully moving to Dublin before next year and was wondering if there was anyone on this site from there?

Hi Matt,
The "hopefully" in your post indicates a certain happiness, but how about your fish house? Or will you build a new one overthere?

Probably Marc,
Which leads me to another point.
If I do move then I probably wont be taking most of my fish with me, only my Panaque nigrolinatus and Uarus and mabey the grokefish mkII (although I am not that attached to him) to reduce stress on them due to the logistics of moving to another country. So I'm gonna have a big sale/giveaway once the decision has been taken.
watch this space for bargains to good homes.

After searching so long for them you're not going to tell me you're going to get rid of the Jags? And how about the morrowis? Too bad.
Anyway, do you ship to the Netherlands or will you bring them yourself?

I don't want to put them through such a terrible trauma Marc the logistics of moving house is bad enough let alone another country. If I decide to keep this house and buy another one in Ireland (which is an option I am looking at) then I may well keep them as I could move them slowly over the course of a few months to minimise stress.

Hi Grokefish

I am from Dublin. Where are you coming from, where exactly is fishy heaven? Any idea what part of Dublin you are heading to? There are two fish clubs, oneSouthside, running many years and a new one on the North side of the city. There is also an Irish forum you should check out. My name on there is Daragh Owens.

Thanks

Hi Matt,
Thanks for such a serious reply to my rather silly remark. If possible I would of course come over to collect them from you, but that is not going to happen.
Thus I hope you are able to keep them one way or another or find someone who'll take care of them who lives nearby.

Matt

Before you decide to part with any fish, you may wish to check availability of those fish here, we tend to get a lot less variety here than available in the UK, although things are improving all the time, the hobby is having a bit of a boom here at the moment, but I reckon it is still 10 years behind the UK

The main problem would be transporting all my tanks and fish and setting them up again and getting them running and then getting the fish and the filters all acclimatised, in one day.
To be honest I don't know what the water parameters in Dublin are here they are really soft and acidic. Any Ideas on what the water specs are in Dublin?

Matt. My water here is very soft and pH 7.0. However there are parts of Dublin with hard water at pH 8.5. If you know what part of Dublin you are coming to, post on ITFS and someone in that area should be able to give you an idea of the water quality.

At the moment it is either going to be Dun Loghaire or Rush, but they are just the short list for Dublin.
We also Liked the look of Bray in Co. Wicklow and also we are going to check out Cork before we decide between the two (Dublin and Cork) so I should have posted this topic as "I am moving to somewhere in Ireland" really.
