These are some of three new pairs which are only 11 months old but have spawned three time in the past three months. They were raised from one pair of four that were derived from imports from SE Asia. Most of the original airs were infertile, I suspect due to hormone exposure used to make their small discus prematurely color up. Only one of the original pairs produced any fry and these new pairs were obtained from eight I kept. One pair had fry swimming fry on their third spawn but I had some Apistogramma iniridae in with them which picked off the free swimmers. I know have them set up alone so that will no longer be a problem. I only raise these turquoise domestics to help me buy more wild discus.I do have one nice male Manacapuru Blue Discus I will pair with one of these turquoise females. I am hoping thaat some of their young will develop markings similar to wild Royal Blues.
I am using this male in the cross.

I have many fancy pleco and Sturisoma but I have always placed my discus first. I began breeding wild discus in 1969 when I was only seventeen years old so my history with discus breeding goes back over four decades. I am trying to breed mostly wild type discus to provide an alternative to the somewhat too fantastically colored domestic strain for those who like me, prefer the natural types of discus.
